There are even 3 settlements with this name in Ignalina district. This largest is the center of the eldership. The areas are rich in quality clay, so in 1974–1996 a building materials plant operated here. After the closure of the plant, the population of the village decreased by a thousand. Scenes from the Emmy Award-winning film Tokyo Court were filmed in an abandoned factory site.
